General Information and Disclaimers on Arbor UpCycle Wood Products

At Arborist Now, Inc. DBA Arbor UpCycle (referred to as “Arbor UpCycle,” “AU,” “us,” or “we”), we value transparency and in furtherance of that, we adopted this disclaimer to provide clarity on what you can expect when purchasing goods or services from us. Please take the time to review the following disclaimer when purchasing a product or service from us. For any questions, please contact us at contact@arborupcycle.com

Wood is a natural product that reacts to temperature and humidity variations by expanding and contracting. These changes may be noticeable in the physical appearance of the products. Although every care is taken to ensure our products are able to handle temperature and humidity changes, the conditions of your home or other environments can affect the wood products you buy from Arbor UpCycle. We recommend that the products are kept in stable conditions to minimize the effects of temperature and moisture change. For example, avoid placing the products close to heat sources, such as radiators or ovens, air conditioning units, etc.

Our imagery and samples are used to show the general style and quality of the products, but the end product will always differ.

Our reclaimed timber comes from a variety of sources, including street trees, public parks, private backyards, etc. Therefore, there may be nails and other metallic or non-metallic objects in the wood. We endeavor to ensure that our timber products are of suitably high quality, but it is not possible to eliminate all risks associated with using reclaimed timber. Examples of the risks are deformation, cracks, retraction, splitting and discoloration.

Each species of wood has a different level of hardness. Soft woods are more susceptible to dents and marks on the finish.

Any services performed by us are professional services. We do not warrant in any form the results or achievements of any of the services we provide or the resulting work product and deliverables. We warrant that that the services we provide will be performed by qualified personnel in a professional and workmanlike manner in accordance with the generally accepted industry standards and practices. Raw Slabs
Arbor UpCycle’s lumber shall not be used as construction structural lumber, as it is not classified as such.

We provide milled, unfinished slabs of a variety of species. However, we are not liable or responsible for the inappropriate use of the lumber. The dimensions of stabbed lumber are defined according to our analysis of each log, the specific aesthetic details we want to preserve, etc.

The dimension (e.g thickness) may vary from slabs of the same boule (milled log). Our slabs may be fresh cut, air dried, or kiln dried. Fresh cut slabs have a higher risk of checking, splitting, shaking, cupping, bowing, or twisting. The moisture content in our air-dried slabs is not guaranteed to be a certain level, but slabs are considered sellable at 13% or below moisture level. Kiln dried lumber is the most uniformly balanced and ready to use lumber. We reach a moisture content of about 8-10% at the end of the drying process and the material is stored indoors at our shop. However, we cannot guarantee that small variations will not occur, depending on the climate conditions, which will affect the moisture content. In any case, we insist that wood is a natural product that reacts to temperature and humidity variations by expanding and contracting, even when kiln dried.

Custom Milling
Custom milling dimensions (thickness, width, length, etc.) will be detailed on the estimate provided by Arbor UpCycle prior to milling. Actual dimensions may vary slightly.

We use a bandsaw mill with thin kerf blades when the diameter of the log is 36” or less. This limits the waste of lumber in a log. When the diameter is greater than 36”, we use chainsaw Alaskan mills, resulting in thicker cuts and more waste. The use of Alaskan mills also results in rougher and more uneven surfaces.

The client, by providing the wood, is responsible for metallic and non-metallic objects in the logs, which may result in damage to our equipment. We understand that it is difficult to guarantee that no such object is present in the logs brought to us for milling thus we will not charge for damage to our blades up to one minor occurrence per log. Our operators will contact you after the first occurrence and it will be mutually agreed upon whether or not the milling should be continued.

After the first occurrence, the sharpening or replacement of the blade will be charged to the client. Arbor UpCycle reserves the right to refuse the milling of wood when the quality of lumber or the presence of miscellaneous objects in it is likely to damage our equipment.

Finished Products
Our finished products include all wood pieces from milled lumber that are transformed by our shop crew and stocked at our warehouse/showroom. This includes furniture, decorative items, wood panels, flooring, finished or semi-finished slabs, bookmatches, etc. They are are sold as is.

Custom Products
Custom projects are designed either by the customer, our designers, or both. The first consultation is free. Further consultations and design times will be charged at a rate of $120/hr. Our project quotes include detailed information about the design and materials, after consulting with the client.

Changes in the design or materials:

Any changes in the design or materials agreed on the signed estimate will modify the work schedule of our crew and/or direct cost of materials. Such changes may result in a price modification of the project. This modification will be amended on the original estimate and will require signature of both parties before continuation of the project.
